The Computer Shops (Advantage and Disadvantage)

Computer shops are very helpful to many people especially to those who do not have their own computer set and internet connection or broadband. If we are going to take a look inside the computer shop, we can see that it is fully occupied almost all the time. The rent of the computer for about half an hour ranges from P7.00 to P10.00 and about P13.00 to P15.00 amount per hour. Some of the customers’ purposes for renting the computer can be a research about their assignments or research on their topics in their subjects that they need to have clarifications, others are encoding for their projects it can be a research paper or encoded requirements for their particular subject, etc., others are making instructional materials l

ike PowerPoint Presentation for their class reports, others are watching videos particularly on YouTube and sometimes they also downloading music or videos , but the most common activity of the customers are playing computer games and others are surfing theirFacebook, Twitter, or Instagramaccounts. Because of the fact that computer shops are in demand to people, they become now widespread among the community and school.

Computer games especially those games that are violent in nature are really dangerous to those who are addicted in playing it. This can bring harm to those players in a way that it exposes them to violence which can greatly affect their minds and more likely they can become less responsive to violence. Like what we have seen in the news, there are lots of crimes committed due to some ordinary quarrel on that particular game such as physical destruction or worse death. Also the addiction of the use of social networking sites brings also a negative effect to many people thus it prevent them to keep in touch with their real friends because they spend most of their time in chatting to their friends which they do not actually known personally or they are busy in giving comments especially negative comments on some post which can lead them to exposure on cyber bullying that leads to the reduction of their self confidence or worse if they cannot handle it, may lead to suicide as what I have learned in the news.Aside from ideological propaganda, financial fraud, ands other exploitative use of technology that brought danger of dehumanization, the use of sites that contains pornographic materials becomes very alarming because it can lead to violence like the rape cases spread all over the nation.

As a student I can say that computer shops are of great help to me when doing my assignments, I also know the fact that I am also a user of social networking sites especially Facebook. That is why every time I do some research on the internet, I can’t help opening a new tab for Facebook, another new tab for YouTube and another tab for Google of course for my personal purposes without knowing that I spend most of the time browsing them than for making a research which left me no option but to rent for another hour. It made me a conclusion that in doing a web research it is really needed that we have self-discipline.

When there are available computer resources in our school or at home, we should use it wisely especially when we own a computer it is really a great help to us as a student that is why it is needed that we use them in making projects, assignments or instructional materials, we can also use them for personal matters provided that we use it wisely and it is our leisure time and we do not consume much of our time for that. I can say owning a computer set or laptop with broadband is an advantage for a student because it is very in demand such for making school requirements because as we all know we are living in the age of modern technology that is why we also have to become competent in the use of technology in learning. It is up to us how we can maximize the use of computer resources for our own good.
