What can you say to the objection that a student-centered learning environment can be noisy and unwieldy?

The student-centered environment could really promotes higher thinking skills because this kind of learning environment leads to a highly active and individualized educational methods which place the student at the center of the teaching and learning process. This learning process is referred as facilitating learning. The students are given the chance to share in class their ideas about the topic presented by the teacher and as the students participate  actively by giving their own ideas and with the teacher as a their guide, the students can be able to discover or to come up to the appropriate idea about the topic. After the students get the correct answer, the teacher will add and elaborate more details about the topic. The students can also construct their ideas and understanding based on their social environment and in their own experiences thus, there will be a student to teacher interaction as well as student to student interaction making the source of information becomes varied. Through this teaching-learning approach, the students can learn from their teacher as well as from their classmates and the teacher can also learn from his/her students.

Since there is an active interaction between the students and teachers in the student-centered classroom, they cannot avoid being noisy, for me it’s just normal if the students seem to be noisy as long as it is an educational noise. In a student-centered classroom, the students should be self-disciplined as well, so that the flow of the entire session will not be very noisy; when someone wants to give their own ideas, they should raise their hand for them to be recognize and if someone want to add something or if he/she is disagree on the statement of his/her classmate he/she must wait for his/her turn to speak instead of interfering while his/her classmate is speaking so that no one will shout out loud their ideas because everyone are given an opportunity to give their stand. The teacher has a very important role in this kind of learning approach since he/she is the facilitator of the class, he/she must have an effective skill in managing the class thus preventing the student-centered learning to become unwieldy.
